Bitcoin and ethereum both had strong openings for the second day in a row, with bitcoin and ethereum posting their strongest monthly gains since May. So far, “green” July is off to a solid start.
While 2026 hasn’t been kind to crypto up to this point, analysts believe the bear market wasn’t as bad as it could have been, in part thanks to dedicated buyers who have helped prop up prices and prevented this crypto winter from being as cold as previous ones.
Michael Saylor’s Strategy is being seen as a true “balancing force in the [bitcoin] market”:
Even though spot ETFs lost $5.5 billion in withdrawals this year, corporate treasury buying stepped in to keep net market inflows positive, with Bernstein noting that “inflows have been driven by treasury companies — particularly Strategy.”
For ethereum, Bitmine’s Tom Lee has been clear about his desire to own 5% of all ethereum, and he continues to get closer to that benchmark:
Bitmine added another 74 million in Ether as Tom Lee bets on clarity Act boost. This has been his strategy all along… But more importantly, Tom Lee is not stopping; his strategy has not changed at all. He is still finding more ways to buy Ethereum and now is rapidly, rapidly approaching his goal of owning 5% of the supply.

What is Ethereum and how does it work?
Ethereum is the blockchain, while ether is the cryptocurrency that runs on it. When people say they’re “buying ethereum,” they’re usually buying ETH — the digital asset used to run applications and store value.
Some investors trade short-term, others accumulate their holdings slowly, and still others focus on earning a yield by locking up their ETH to help run the network — a process known as staking.
How to buy Ethereum
Ether, the native cryptocurrency used on the Ethereum platform, remains significantly more volatile than the S&P 500 for many investors. But it’s no longer a moonshot — it’s a foundational piece of a modern digital portfolio.
