Speaking during a Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta, the President declared the milestone a vital shield against the escalating threat of a global food crisis
“We are self-sufficient in eight food commodities. Our rice reserves are currently at the highest level in the history of Indonesia,” Prabowo remarked.
He also highlighted a positive turn for the country’s agricultural workforce, noting that the national farmer’s exchange rate (NTP), a key indicator measuring the purchasing power and economic welfare of farmers—has reached an all-time high.
While Prabowo’s address did not explicitly name the specific items, official data from the National Food Agency’s (Bapanas) 2026 Food Commodity Balance Projection outlines that domestic production and availability now exceed demand for eight commodities: rice, feed corn, consumer sugar, large chilies, cayenne pepper, shallots, chicken meat and eggs.
Meanwhile, three commodities have not yet achieved self-sufficiency and continue to experience a supply deficit, including soybeans, garlic and beef/buffalo meat.
Alongside agricultural achievements, President Prabowo tied national food resilience directly to Indonesia’s aggressive energy policies.
He highlighted the ongoing rollout of palm oil-based B50 biodiesel as a crucial step in reducing the nation’s costly dependence on imported diesel fuel.
Prabowo emphasized that the parallel reinforcement of both the food and energy sectors forms the cornerstone of Indonesia’s strategy to shield itself from global economic shocks.
