Is the stock market closed July 3? NYSE, Nasdaq holiday hours July 4

  • The U.S. stock market is closed on weekdays for federal holidays. When a holiday falls on a weekend, the market closes on the nearest weekday.
  • For Independence Day 2026, the NYSE and Nasdaq will be closed on Friday, July 3, and will reopen on July 6.
  • The last full trading day before the holiday is Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The U.S. stock market is open on weekdays but closes for weekends and federal holidays, including July 4.

Independence Day 2026 falls on a Saturday. So is the stock market open Friday? And when is the last full trading day? Here are the weekend hours for the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.

NYSE and Nasdaq holiday schedule, closures

When a market holiday falls on a weekend, the NYSE and Nasdaq are closed on the nearest weekday.

According to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Independence Day is a federal holiday. With July 4 falling on Saturday this year, both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of the holiday.

Here are the New York Stock Exchange holiday closures for the rest of the year. Nasdaq follows the same schedule:

  • Independence Day: Closed (Observed Friday, July 3)
  • Labor Day: Closed (Monday, Sept. 7)
  • Thanksgiving Day: Closed (Thursday, Nov. 26; closes at 1 p.m. ET Nov. 27)
  • Christmas Day: Closed (Friday, Dec. 25; closes at 1 p.m. ET Dec. 24)

Regular NYSE trading hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET.

When is the last trading day before July 4?

The last full trading day before the holiday is Thursday, July 2, 2026.

When does the stock market reopen after July 4?

The NYSE and Nasdaq will reopen for regular trading on Monday, July 6, 2026, following the holiday weekend.
