The BSE Sensex declined 452.44 points, or 0.54%, to close at 83,606.46, while the NSE Nifty shed 120.75 points, or 0.47%, to settle at 25,517.05.
Here’s how analysts read the market pulse:
“The global market sentiment is moving in favour of equities on account of easing risk in the Middle East and the US trade deal hopes,” said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
However, Nair noted that “the main domestic indices witnessed profit booking after the recent rally,” adding that attention is now shifting to corporate earnings season, which will “refocus the markets on fundamentals for valuation support.” Nair also pointed out that mid-cap and small-cap stocks outperformed on expectations of better earnings driven by consumption and margin expansion.

US markets
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq notched fresh record highs Monday, lifted by optimism over U.S. trade deals. The Nasdaq is up 17.5% this quarter, with the S&P 500 and Dow gaining 10.3% and 3.4%, respectively.Despite the rally, all three indexes are heading for their weakest first-half performance since 2022, as investor caution persists amid policy volatility under President Trump.
European markets
European markets closed lower on Monday, capping June with broad losses as investors remained cautious ahead of the looming July U.S. tariff deadline. The STOXX 600 fell 0.4% on the day and over 1% for the month.
Tech View
The Nifty witnessed some profit-taking as the index closed 152 points off the day’s high, said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, adding that the index has formed a bearish engulfing pattern on the daily timeframe, indicating fatigue in the ongoing market rally.
“In the near term, the index may enter a phase of consolidation. The short-term trend is likely to remain sideways before any decisive directional move. On the downside, a decisive fall below 25,500 could trigger a correction. On the upside, resistance is placed at 25,600 and 25,800,” said De.

Most active stocks in terms of turnover
Waaree Energies (Rs 2,809 crore), Jyoti CNC Automation (Rs 1,974 crore), Alembic Pharma (Rs 1,643 crore), SBI (Rs 1,605 crore), InterGlobe Aviation (Rs 1,425 crore), HDFC Bank (Rs 1,366 crore) and Trent (Rs 1,316 crore) were among the most active stocks on BSE in value terms. Higher activity in a counter in value terms can help identify the counters with the highest trading turnovers in the day.
Most active stocks in volume terms
Vodafone Idea (Traded shares: 55.42 crore), Suzlon Energy (Traded shares: 10.01 crore), JP Power (Traded shares: 9.81 crore), YES Bank (Traded shares: 9.65 crore), Bank of Maharashtra (Traded shares: 5.31 crore), PNB (Traded shares: 4.68 crore) and IDBI Bank (Traded shares: 4.59 crore) were among the most actively traded stocks in volume terms on NSE.
Stocks showing buying interest
Shares of Raymond, Alembic Pharma, Deepak Fertilisers, Raymond Lifestyle, Waaree Energies, City Union Bank and Aavas Financiers were among the stocks that witnessed strong buying interest from market participants.
52 Week high
Over 162 stocks hit their 52-week highs today, while 45 stocks slipped to their 52-week lows.
Stocks seeing selling pressure
Stocks which witnessed significant selling pressure were J B Chemicals, Home First Finance, Jyoti CNC Automation, Narayana Hrudayalaya, SBI Card, JK Cement and BLS International Services.
Sentiment meter bullish
The market sentiments were bullish. Out of the 4,290 stocks that traded on the BSE on Monday, 1,750 stocks witnessed declines, 2,362 saw advances, while 178 stocks remained unchanged.
