After losing over 900 points in day trade, the 30-share index recovered some lost ground to close with a loss of 511.38 points or 0.62 per cent at 81,896.79.
Here’s how analysts read the market pulse:
“Market participants remained cautious amid spike in crude oil prices due to concerns over potential supply disruptions from the Strait of Hormuz. However, selective buying by investors supported broader market outperformance with Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 gaining 0.4% and 0.8% respectively,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal.
US markets
Wall Street stocks were little changed early Monday as markets took in stride the latest in the Iran-Israel conflict, including the weekend bombing of Iran ordered by US President Donald Trump.
European Markets
European shares fell on Monday after the US decision to join Israel in striking Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend heightened investor fears of an escalation in the Middle East conflict.
The pan-European STOXX 600 index was down 0.3% at 535.11 points, as of 0712 GMT. Other major regional indexes also traded lower.
