The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped for the 39th time in 40 days Saturday, declining seven-tenths of a cent to $5.397, its lowest amount since March 11 but its second-highest amount ever on July 4.
The only year with a higher average price on July 4 was 2022, when the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County was $6.285.
The average price has dropped 76.9 cents over the past 40 days, including nine-tenths of a cent Friday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 7.7 cents less than one week ago and 60 cents less than one month ago, but 83.7 cents more than one year ago.
The Orange County average price increased one-tenth of a cent to $5.273, after dropping for 46 of the previous 47 days to its lowest amount since March 8. The Orange County average price is also at its second-highest amount on July 4, trailing only 2022’s $6.197 per gallon. It is 6.7 cents less than one week ago and 61.8 cents less than one month ago, but 77 cents more than one year ago.
The national average price dropped for the 42nd time in 44 days, falling 1.3 cents to $3.81, its lowest amount since March 17. It has decreased 75.4 cents over the past 44 days, including 1.5 cents Friday. The national average price is 6.8 cents less than one week ago and 43.1 cents less than one month ago, but 65.8 cents more than one year ago.
“Crude oil prices have fallen to their lowest levels in months, dropping to the $60 a barrel range,” the AAA said Thursday. “Overall, gas prices remain the highest they’ve been in 4 years, but the downward trend since late May is welcome news during the busy summer driving season.”
