S&P Dow Jones Indices recently announced the rebalancing of the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices with Nordea included in the European index.
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices, previously known as Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, is a stock market index that measures the performance of companies selected using environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria through a best-in-class approach. The index is the first global ESG benchmark of its kind, dating back to 1999.
For investors, the indices function as pre-screened universes for active management and as a secondary benchmark for use alongside the S&P 500 stock market index and other major indexes. They serve as indicators of actively managed ESG strategies and underlying indices for passive funds, structured products and other financial products are also included.
“This is a great recognition of Nordea’s ESG leadership. As the index membership is an objective, credible standard to measure a company’s performance against industry peers, it validates the leadership of our ESG strategy in the investors’ eyes,” says Juho-Pekka Jääskeläinen, Head of Debt Investor Relations and Ratings.
Head of Group Sustainability Anja Hannerz adds:
“We have made consistent progress and have embedded sustainability into our governance and processes to build resilience and support our own and our customers’ transition. Today, sustainability is at the core of our business. It’s part of our customer value proposition and how we run the bank and manage risks.”
