Drivers in Warren are seeing some relief at the gas pump just as one of the busiest travel weekends of the year gets underway.
According to AAA East Central’s latest Gas Price Report, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Warren is $4.004, lower than the Western Pennsylvania average of $4.231 per gallon. Regional prices have fallen by about 10 cents over the past week.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline has dropped for the fifth consecutive week to $3.86 per gallon, remaining below the $4 mark for a second straight week. The national average is six cents lower than a week ago, 53 cents lower than a month ago, but still 58 cents higher than this time last year.
The decline comes as crude oil prices continue to ease amid ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran. At the same time, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported gasoline demand fell last week while domestic fuel supplies increased, helping put downward pressure on prices.
Despite the recent declines, AAA expects roads to be busy over the Independence Day holiday. The organization estimates a record number of Americans will travel for the holiday, with about 85% planning to drive to their destinations.
Among nearby communities, Erie posted one of the area’s lowest average prices at $3.90 per gallon, while Oil City averaged $4.456 and Bradford came in at $4.280. Pittsburgh drivers are paying an average of $4.469 per gallon.
While motorists are paying less than they were a week ago, Western Pennsylvania’s average remains well below the region’s record high of $5.029 per gallon, set on June 13, 2022.
For electric vehicle owners, the national average cost of charging at public stations remained unchanged this week at 41 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to AAA.
